Komunikacijske vještine

Advanced improvised presentation

Goal of the practical class

The goal of the practical class is to analyse and raise awareness of the basic elements of verbal communication and its relation to non-verbal communication, and to deliver an impromptu speech on the given topic.

Preparation

Prior to the class attendance, the students should study theoretical background of the practical class.

Delivery method

The students come out individually in front of the group. The group gives a topic and the presenters should deliver a speech without preparation. The structure of the impromptu speech consists of the following elements:

  • Introduction
  • Self-introduction
  • Topic elaboration and asking the question
    •      Arguments in favour of the answer A
    •      Arguments in favour of the answer B
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion

The choice of the topic to be delivered is left to the students alone, achieving in this manner the relevance of the practical class to their reality. The topic of the speech should be suitable for discussion, namely it should offer clear choice between two different answers.

During the class the audience is trying to distract the speaker’s attention by their conversation and/or by asking questions, and he should ignore distractions from the audience, reply to their questions and, while doing so, preserve the main idea of the speech.

At the end of the class, the students and the lecturer together comment on the acquired experience. By assessing potential benefit from the class for their professional and private development, the students critically review its successfulness in cooperation with their lecturer.
