Recognition of subjects passed on other studies

Many students, especially transfer students, have already attended some communicology modules at different higher educational institutions. If they have passed the exam in that module at the relevant higher educational institution with compatible program and the equivalent ECTS score, the exam will be fully recognised. The students should submit an application for the first examination period and bring the certificate of the obtained grade to be transcribed.

If the passed exam has a compatible curriculum but lower ECTS score, it will be partially recognised. In accordance with the specifics of each individual case, the students will have to write and hand in a suitable seminar paper. After the paper is evaluated, the students should submit an application for the first examination period and bring the certificate of the obtained grade to be transcribed.

Students frequently ask if they could claim exemption from taking the exam in the Communication Skills module on the basis of seminars and/or workshops attended outside the university educational system. Such seminars and workshops have different focus from the faculty modules, so they cannot replace them.

Important

It is possible to get recognition only of the previously obtained grade in the cases of recognition that require writing a seminar paper. To obtain a higher grade, the student has to enrol onto the module, attend all lectures and pass all preliminary exams.

Exam recognition procedure

Students who have already attended a similar module elsewhere should contact the lecturer via email and briefly explain the situation including the following data:

  • the module title,
  • the institution where the exam was taken,
  • the curriculum content and the allocated ECTS score, and
  • the lecturer’s full name.

Further steps will depend on the specifics of each individual case.
